The First Din Tai Fung Xiao Long Bao Bar in Power Plant Mall.

The first time T and I tried Din Tai Fung was in Hong Kong with our friends (read my blog post about our Hong Kong Trip).  When they expanded to the Philippines, T and I would dine every once in a while but it was only when they opened a Din Tai Fung branch at the new wing of Power Plant Mall in Rockwell would we eat there almost three times a week! Let me give me you two reasons why you should visit this particular branch even if you've eaten in Din Tai Fung already.

Reason #1: This is where the first ever Xiao Long Bao Bar of Din Tai Fung is in the world! Yup, you read that right.. in the world. Here, they encourage you to watch how they make and cook the special Din Tai Fung xiao long baos.

You can enjoy different kinds of xiao long baos all day, every day in the Power Plant Mall branch. T and I always have the Pork Xiao Long Bao (5pcs for PhP160+ or 10pcs for PhP315+).

I like the sauces of Din Tai Fung but for the next kinds of xiao long bao, you don't need sauces anymore because they are already flavorful by themselves.

The first one is the Truffle and Pork Xiao Long Bao (PhP135+ per piece). Whenever we order this, our server gives us a different set of spoons and bowls and tells us not to dip it in the sauce so we can appreciate the flavor more. Makes sense!

Notice the little dot-like thing on our xiao long bao steam basket? When you order more than one type of xiao long bao, there will be markers so you can distinguish one from the other.

Another tasty variety that doesn't need sauce is the Crab Roe and Pork Xiao Long Bao (PhP285 for 5pcs and PhP565 for 10pcs). It's a bit too strong for my taste though, even if I like crab roe. I can only finish a maximum of two pieces of this.

I don't eat duck so T is the only one who orders the Foie Gras and Chicken Xiao Long Bao (PhP135+ per piece). It's one of his favorites.

They also have dessert xiao long baos such as the Chocolate Lava Xiao Long Bao (PhP115 for 3pcs).  T and I love how it's generously filled with chocolate.

Reason #2: There are dishes which are available only in Din Tai Fung Power Plant Mall branch such as the Dry Noodles with Braised Beef and the Truffle Mushroom Rice. T and I have been trying to get ahold of the Truffle Mushroom Rice but it's always unavailable.  So when we chanced upon its availability one day, T and I order two servings even if a serving is good for two to three people. So much for trying to lessen our rice intake! It's really good and we finish both servings.

I usually order the Chicken Cutlet Over Fried Rice (PhP295+) and the Pork Chop Fried Rice (PhP290+) but when we have the Truffle Mushroom Rice, I get the Crispy Chicken Cutlet with Special Sauce (PhP265+) instead.

Another dish we've tried is the Pork and Roasted Garlic Bun (PhP140 for 3pcs).  I'm an asado person though so I only eat a piece of this.

We've tried a number of dishes aside from the ones I mentioned but I don't have photos on my phone probably because I always get this face when I try taking photos (aka the hangry face) :D But it's ok since I've covered our favorites already in this post.

Other xiao long bao variants we have yet to try are the Uni and Pork Xiao Long BaoChili Crab and Shrimp Xiao Long Bao, and Pork and Kimchi Xiao Long Bao. I'm not sure if these dishes are exclusive only to the Power Plant branch but so far, I have not seen them in the menus of the other branches.

Thumbs Up!
Nice ambiance.
Quick service.
Houses the first and only Din Tai Fung xiao long bao bar in the world.
Has exclusive dishes which are not available in other Din Tai Fung branches.
Serves really good xiao long bao.
Has a separate take out counter.
Provides for a bag compartment which can be placed under the table.

Thumbs Down!
Nothing really except that there's a wait during the weekend.

After eating in Din Tai Fung, we tried to go to one of the places where we usually have our xiao long bao fix but it just wasn't the same. Like I said, T and I eat here almost two to three times a week so we will definitely be back!
