The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf's 2016 Giving Journal.

I still need planners and notebooks in my life.  Yes, our mobile phones are much more convenient because it's quick and we always have it with us but at the end of the day, I need to write things down.  That's why when a year is about to end, I get excited because I can get a new planner, and of course, the pens that I'm going to use with it.

If any of you are like me and are looking for a planner to use next year, check out Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf (CBTL)'s 2016 Giving Journal.

I was invited to the launch of the 2016 Giving Journal last week which Tessa Herrera hosted.

Through a short video presentation, I learn how The Giving Journal is not just your ordinary planner.   It's designed to inspire each individual to pursue their passions and find meaning and fulfillment in everyday moments, while at the same time providing them with the opportunity to give back by helping others.

I also learn that for every drink that we purchase in CBTL, we actually give back to the community.  CBTL has partnered with REAL Life Foundation and sponsored 38 university scholars since 2011.  And as of the present, 13 of these scholars have already graduated!  Isn't it a nice feeling to be part of something that has given these people a chance to help their families and fulfill their dreams?

CBTL makes the launch a more fun afternoon for everyone with calligrapher Alexis Ventura, watercolor painter Alessandra Lanot, typographer Abbey Sy, and paper cutter Karl Ivan conducting sessions on their respective crafts.

I invite T's sister Michelle to go with me to the event.

We first attend the calligraphy session with Alexis Ventura and that's when I realize that I miss writing! If you follow me on Instagram (@joeiandme), you know that I've been into arts and crafts right before I left for the States.  But of course I didn't have time when I got there, except for the occasional coloring since it was such a hit in the US at that time, and just got too busy when I came back.

Michelle and I go to Abbey Sy's typography session next.

Then we attend the watercolor lettering session.  I've been wanting to go to a class like this since I have new watercolor sets just lying on my shelf and waiting to be used.  So I'm glad that there is one this afternoon, and even better, Alessandra Lanot is teaching it.

And now let's talk about the 2016 Giving Journal.

Taking a peek inside, it's nice to see pages devoted to travel plans and flavorful moments of the year.  It really is like a journal and planner in one.  There are also coupons with good deals on food and drinks in CBTL.

I also like how there are inspirational quotes and pretty artwork on random pages.

This year, the planner comes in four colors: baby blue, mustard yellow, brown, and purple.  Can you guess what color I got?  Which one is your favorite?

  1. Looks like it was a colorful event! This year, I had up on planners and just started using notebooks - attempted a bullet journal too. But looking at the Giving Journal makes me start rethinking 2016 plans hehe

    1. Hi Vera! I tried to do the bullet journal too but I just stuck to my old system which is similar but more familiar :)

Anyway, happy planner hunting! That's the best part ;)

  2. Hi, I had fun reading your blog (and got a little jealous of the calligraphy lessons too). I'm wondering though which cafe planner I should accomplish for next year. I really liked the CBTL from the one you posted, and I'm now conflicted if I should continue with getting another Starbucks planner for next year. Any advice? :)

    1. Hi Anon! I choose my planner based color, design, and content. So maybe you can compare the color and design of each planner then decide which appeals to you more. But more important to me is the content. I have a system when it comes to taking note of my schedule and tasks so I choose my planner based on what will support my system in the best way. Hope this helps!

    1. Easiest is to just buy drinks from CBTL and collect their stamps :)
