Here's another off the beaten path suggestion for Valentine's Day, a restaurant near the Tomas Morato/Timog area called Taste of L.A.
I'm not usually in Quezon City, as I find anything past Guadalupe bridge already too far for me and beyond my driving skills. I usually end up in the area only because of work or sometimes a blog event (if I really love or support the brand, restaurant, or PR person).
I'm sure most of you don't remember this because bad traffic has already become a norm in Metro Manila nowadays but there was this particular day in December 2013 when everyone was stuck in traffic for hours on end.
And on that fateful day, I was scheduled to attend a press conference on the anniversary of the passage of the Reproductive Health Law in Quezon City. Not even knowing about the traffic situation, I left the house two and a half hours earlier than the scheduled time but got to my destination after more than five hours of driving. Yes, FIVE. And that was already with shortcuts taught to me by T over the phone.

After the event, I called my friend Camille in ABS-CBN and asked if she could have merienda or coffee with me because I don't think I can face the hellish traffic of EDSA just yet. I picked her up and Camille said a colleague of hers suggested this restaurant which she also hasn't tried yet.
It was pretty hard to find Taste of L.A. even with Waze and all. Camille and I went in circles for a long time and we almost bit each other's heads off (it's ok, we've been friends since we were kids so we are used to each other's temper tantrums) until we found it.
My first thought was, "Hmmm... it doesn't look like much from the outside".
Then we enter and see this, which is better than what I expected. I was about to sit down when the server suggested that we stay downstairs.
So we followed him and...
....Wow! I didn't expect this kind of ambiance. So pretty!
Camille joked that this is where the kabits go on dates because it's a nice place but really hidden. Come to think of it, maybe she wasn't joking ;)
Camille ordered the Spaghetti al Pomodoro (PhP350/$8+) with simple fresh tomato and basil sauce. I tasted it and it was good.
I ordered the Chicharon Bisaya (PhP270/$6.10+) which is crispy pork fat strips. It's more like lechon kawali than chicharon but I actually like it better that way.
For our drinks, we both got Fresh Mango Shakes.
Thanks for the company, Camille, and also for the restaurant discovery. I should bring T here one of these days!
Well.. Traffic was still bad on the way back but at least my tummy's full which means my patience meter was back up.
Doesn't use MSG.
Honest staff (thank you for running after us even if we were already in our car and on the street just to return my power bank!)
May be hard to find if you're not familiar with the area.
I want to go back here with T!
