Press Cafe in Alabang, Revisited.. and Disappointed.

Since T was busy with his new business venture earlier today, I told myself I'd catch up on my blogging because the entries in my draft folder have been piling up.  I chose to go to Press Cafe in Fully Booked Alabang since the food is good and the ambiance is conducive to studying, or in my case, blogging.

Boy, was I wrong.

Let me start with the food.  I ordered one of my "usuals" from my law school days, the Chicken Roulade (P220/$5) which is grilled chicken and cucumber rolled in soft tortilla with balsamic and honey mustard sauce.

On the upside, the serving size has increased.  On the downside, the taste was blah.  Aside from the sprinkle of honey mustard and balsamic on the top and watered down dressing in the middle, the rolls were so dry!  And the grilled chicken didn't have any flavor.  So disappointing.  I should have just gotten a grilled cheese sandwich.

Now on to the staff.  When I entered the cafe, the servers were noisy and laughing loudly.  I know this is common to a lot of restaurants or cafes when they're still empty but usually, when a customer comes in, everyone calms down and gets to work.  But not in Press Cafe!  Except for the server who attended to me, everyone was still talking and exchanging jokes even when I was there.  I felt like I was intruding into someone else's home and there was a party, instead of entering a cafe.

I am actually very lenient when it comes to these things.  T and I usually converse with staff members and managers of restaurants and cafes and we enjoy doing so, especially in places we regularly visit.  But this was so different.  Christmas songs were playing loudly on the stereos and yet the voices of the servers were even louder than that.  And it was NON STOP talking and laughing.  Imagine.

I am also not sensitive to sound. I've reviewed for the bar in the craziest places... a hotel lobby, a basketball court, and even a little shop in the middle of a casino!  But for some reason, I couldn't concentrate on blogging in Press.  How could I?  Just when I was in the middle of a thought, the girl server would suddenly exclaim, "HUNGRY!".  Then everyone would talk loudly.  It was so distracting.  I thought they would get tired of talking and it was just a moment of boredom but no.  They went on and on and on for an hour and I gave up, got the bill, and walked away.

I usually don't rant about places or things in my blog because I believe in constructive criticism.  But I really felt so bad today because just when I found the time to blog (this is rare because my schedule is so busy!!!), this happens.

To be fair, the loud servers were friendly when I asked for something.  They didn't make me feel that I was disturbing them.  And the server who attended to me wasn't really that noisy.

Don't get me wrong.  I still love Press Cafe but my visit today was just so disappointing.

Thumbs Up!
For this visit, nothing really.

Thumbs Down!
Chicken roulade wasn't what it used to be.
Noisy, distracting and inattentive staff.

Verdict
I should have just gone boxing.

  1. Tama nga naman. It's a cafe so it's supposed to be quiet. I hope they'll read this.

  3. Haha on the verdict! I totally get what you mean--that feeling when you're already psyched about sitting down and zoning in on your blogging then, bam, you don't get it done.

Do they have one of those feedback sheets?
