Remembering Las Vegas (part 3): The Ride Home.

The Ride Home
2 January 2011

The next day, we were ready to say goodbye to Vegas.

Among us, my friend Tina was the only one who has never experienced snowfall.  So she felt sad when her boyfriend Shihan, who was still in Vegas, called and said that it started snowing there after we left.  Mica, Liz and I prayed for snow even if we all know it was impossible because it doesn't really snow where we were at.

But somehow our prayers were answered.  A small snowflake fell on Tina's head!

Tina was contented with that little snowflake and we were off.  While everyone was sleeping in the car, except me and Rudi (because he was driving), we both noticed that it was getting kind of foggy.  At first I thought it was really strong rain but when I opened my window... IT WAS SNOW!!!

Tina was on the verge of tears, as you can see in the photo below.  She was so happy!  Although I think we prayed too much because what was supposed to be fun in the snow turned into a horrible snow storm.  And since it doesn't usually snow at that area, no one was prepared for it.  Cars were skidding on the road, motorcycle riders were being fetched by ambulances because it was impossible to ride.  It was scary!

We were part of the last batch of cars that were allowed to go through the freeway before the police closed it.  And because we were traveling less than 10 miles an hour, what was supposed to be just an hour's ride became a 4 to 5 hour ride.  But I think everyone will agree with me (well, except maybe for designated driver slash cameraman Rudi who had to deal with driving through a snowstorm without chains on our wheels) when I say, I'd do it all over again.  With our adventures, or should I say, misdaventures.. It was a perfect way to welcome the new year!
