Mother's Day at The Champagne Room.

For Mother's Day, T and I took my mom to The Champagne Room in Manila Hotel.

Our family usually goes to Shangri-La Hotel during holidays and celebrations but since none of us were in the mood for mindless eating (aka buffets), I decided to look for a really nice place serving degustation for Mother's Day (read my blog entry on The Goose Station where T and I had our first degustation experience). Fortunately, Manila Hotel's Champagne Room was everything I had in mind.

"Epitomizing grandeur and elegance in Old European style, the Champagne Room is one of the country's great bastions of haute cuisine, a place firmly dedicated to the fine arts of gastronomic seduction."

"Long favored by the fashionable set, it is well-known for its impeccable service and lavish décor, including crystal palm trees, tasseled ceiling fixtures and floral upholstered chairs, which perfectly reflect its sumptuous classical offerings. A favorite venue for elegant gatherings and celebrations, the Champagne Room best embodies the Grand Dame’s decades of tradition and devotion to providing guests with only the finest dining experience."

Songs I used to play on the piano when I was younger filled the air. My mom became reminiscient and told T about afternoons in our house when they (my parents and my sister) would just sit in our living room and listen to me play.

I love everything about The Champagne Room! I don't know why it took me this long to dine here. Seriously. Unless we had family dinners here but I was just too young to remember.

Come to think of it, T and I were supposed to have Valentines dinner here last year but I forgot why we ended up in Aubergine (read my blog post on Aubergine) instead.

Bread and Butter
Servers went around with baskets containing different types of bread. I chose the soft rolls.

Another went around to serve butter.

I know I should stick with water during degustations to experience the full flavor of the food being served but couldn't help ordering Iced Tea.

First Course
Grey Goose and Gander

Cold salmon with black caviar and vodka
Cream and tomato over toasted mushroom brioche

Found the play with words amusing. Initially, I thought Grey Goose stood for goose liver pâté but while writing this entry, I realized it could also stand for Grey Goose vodka.

Second Course
Little Red Riding Soup of Liquid Remedy

Stewed garden tomato soup gently poured over a cheese souffle

It was a bit heavy because of the cheese souffle but we all loved it, especially cheese lover me!

Third Course
All The Things You Can Think

With green eggs and ham
Butter poached lobster wrapped With prosciutto in rich parsley and lemon sabayon
This just hit the spot since T and I have been craving lobster recently (read my blog entry on Crustasia).

Fourth Course
Snow White Ice

Golden delicious red apple popsicle
To cleanse our palates, they served us sorbet before our main course.

Fifth Course (Main Course)
From The Carving Station

1. Hickory Smoked Dickory Duck
2. Mary "Had" A Fattened Leg of Lamb
3. This Little Pig Had Roast Beef
With sauce a L'Orange Juniper Berry and Port Wine Glaze, Thyme and Black Pepper Au Jus.

T thought he had to choose between beef, lamb or duck. He didn't know they were serving him all 3!

Since Mom and I don't eat lamb or duck, they gave us each a hefty portion of Prime Rib instead.

Sides were Garlic Roasted Potatoes, Chatouillard Pomme Frittes, and Truffled Potato Puree. We were given a set like this each.

Sixth Course
Humpty Dumpty Before The Great Fall

Salted caramel and dark chocolate, vanilla raspberry and lemon cappuccino pots du creme

The salted caramel was a little foreign to my taste buds so I ate just a little. Unfortunately, I was too full to try the other eggs because I would've discovered that each one contained different fillings.

Seventh Course
Pralines de Chocolat

I still had a sore throat so I couldn't eat any of this. Sad. So we just had it wrapped. But it looked really good.

Coffee or Tea

We were all so full. Buffets are out, degustations are in!

I love The Champagne Room...LOVE! It's not just the food but the whole dining experience. Out of all the places T and I have eaten in, this is my favorite to date. The place is just so beautiful and grand!

"Your arms were always open when I needed a hug. Your heart understood when I needed a friend. Your gentle eyes were stern when I needed a lesson. Your strength and love has guided me and gave me wings to fly."
