TOMS Shoes: One For One.

"Today, there are 2 kids in Africa who aren't barefoot anymore because of me."

Wouldn't you want to say the same thing?  Well, you can!  Just buy a pair of Toms shoes because for every pair purchased, TOMS will give a pair of shoes to a child in need. ONE FOR ONE, they call it.

"TOMS Shoes was founded on a simple premise: With every pair you purchase, TOMS will give a pair of new shoes to a child in need. One for One. Using the purchasing power of individuals to benefit the greater good is what we're all about. The TOMS One for One mission transforms our customers into benefactors, which allows us to grow a truly sustainable business rather than depending on fundraising for support."
The first time I introduced T to TOMS.
(Sporting my Para'kito bracelet and my favorite bag ;))

Since T and I were really planning to buy sneakers, I thought.. 'Why not support a good cause in the process?' So today, I went to Nothing But Water, the authorized seller of TOMS shoes in the Philippines, and got us each a pair.

Every buyer gets a souvenir photo after a purchase.

You can visit TOM's Official Website for more information on their shoes and the causes they support.  I suggest that you watch their videos as well.  It really is heartbreaking to see thousands of children who fervently wish for something we take for granted everyday, like shoes.

Love the pair T ended up choosing :)
(Although the zebra one he tried on was cute as well)

My glittery gold TOMS still in its box.

One last point before I end this post.. I have a strong principle against fakes, replicas and even lookalikes (i.e. designer bags, shoes, clothes, jewelry, etc.) though I rarely write about it at the risk of sounding like a snob.   This time, however, I think I have every right to be preachy.   I heard that people are making replicas of TOMS shoes and selling them in bazaars. Please have some decency. TOMS shoes were made to support a cause and by selling or buying fake ones, you're depriving a kid of a pair of shoes.

  1. There are fake Toms? Gosh, I wish they would not do that. Toms supports a cause and that's one reason why I keep on purchasing their shoes. Aside from the fact that it's really comfy. I have the silver version of your glittery shoes. xoxo

  2. mother! i loooove the gold shoes! so you ;)

    is it comfy?

  3. leah. heard from a friend that in the recent rockwell bazaar, someone was selling "toms" from china. Worse, people were flocking the booth! Cant believe how shallow some people could be. For me, if they cant afford it, they shouldnt try looking like they could! It ruins the whole essence of toms. So sad :(

koryn. thought you were on shoe ban?! Hehe! Yup, super comfy. Bit different from the sanuk feeling. Its lighter. But i think they have different uses (im trying to justify my buying a pair of gold toms when i have a pair of gold sanuks too ;)). Sanuk is for rough days while toms for not so rough days.

  4. Great Post! Shopping for a cause is the best excuse to spend a little more right? I have a friend who worked for TOMS and went on to start her own "one for one" company! I love their mission and that gold pair you snagged:) Thanks for the comments~would love to link exchange!

  5. mc. that's a nice thing that your friend's doing :) adding your link now!

  6. What a great cause, but we can't get Toms in the UK! yours are amazing!! So glittery! Daisy Dayz Home

  7. daisymay. thanks for dropping by my blog :) ill add your link ok?

  8. joei, this is a very interesting case! i'm glad that you brought up the topic about people selling fake toms that are supposed to support african children.
anyway, i'm so proud of you. you're a very good and generous woman :) i can learn a lot from you!

  9. yes, i still am. just curious...hahaha!

toms seems more like pamporma, am i right? is the price range like sanuk's?

  10. Fabulous post! I have been a huge fan of TOMS for years; their mission is so amazing and inspiring. :)

  11. thanks for blog hopping over to mine and commenting!

    here's my link!

  12. I'm with you on the fakes!!! And buying fake Toms is especially heartbreaking and those who make fake Toms are especially heartless :(

  13. That is a good cause--you can have yourself a good buy while you can help a child in need at the same time.May God bless you more!

  14. koryn. not really. toms is just as comfortable as sanuk only softer. that's why i said it's for those 'not-so-rough' days. although they have those boots that look like they were made for trekking :)) and i dont believe you're on a shoe ban! haha!

erika. nice to know you support the cause as well :)

  15. shauna. will add your link now :)
