twitter cleanup.

i still remember that time, not too long ago, when twitter was a solitary place where one can rave and rant incessantly without anyone ever really giving a d*mn.  but thanks to politicians and famous celebrities, both local and foreign alike, twitter has become this sort of medium everyone turns to when they need juicy news or interesting updates in people's lives.  the downside to this development, however, is the increase in fake accounts made by advertisers or people who think they have the need to stalk you.

so before i knew it, my 10 followers ballooned to 117.  unfortunately, that list is a mixture of friends, classmates, acquaintances, advertisers, spammers and people who want to know my every move (aka stalkers).  i had no time to sort through each and every one of them so i googled for a solution to this upcoming problem and found TWEEPI.COM.

GEEKY CLEANUP

"So, you're following a few thousand people on Twitter. You must have noticed that many of these users do not engage in conversations, never retweet anybody, or simply just ramble about nonsense stuff all day long (no links to useful content whatsoever!). You can use Tweepi’s geeky cleanup tool to filter these people out and unfollow them.

Geeky Cleanup enables you to clean-up and unfollow annoying tweeples. It lists the users you're following with information about each, and you can just pick whom to unfollow from the list!"

the first step involves logging on to your twitter.  it then takes you a screen where you have to 'allow' the program to access your account.  after that, it gives you a table form of all your followers with a bunch of other information such as the number of followers, people followed, tweets the last week, replies sent out, RT's done, times retweeted by others, the day they last tweeted, the links tweeted ratio, their location and your relationship (whether you're just following them, only them following you or mutually following each other.)  COOL! ;)  i wanted to post a snapshot of my screen right now just to give you an idea of what it looks like but to protect the privacy of my twitter friends, i decided against it.

i'd have to say geeky cleanup is a really good way to rid your twitter of 'dead' followers. in a matter of minutes, i already found a few.  so, i hope this entry helped you solve your twitter problems as well.  but even if it doesn't, don't fret.  there are still a lot of other twitter apps out there, some just for amusement's sake but others, such as geeky cleanup, proving to be uber useful in managing your account. you just have to google for it.

on that note, blogger friends, you can add me up on twitter by clicking on the badge at the right side of the screen.  just tweet me who you are and i promise i won't 'geeky cleanup' you ;)

twitter trivia: my most retweeted twitter friend is dictionary.com, followed by paulo coelho.  and my twitter friend that has the most followers is queen rania, followed again by paulo coelho.

  1. I don't do twitter Joie... it is a choice, I know that if I did it, I will have no more time for my boys anymore. Hahaha! I will be expelled from my house soon for sure.

PS... I wasn't able to wear my trench coats in SoCal except when I go out at night. If you're going to the Bay Area, then you will need the trench coats. It's not cold during daytime here. Tama lang ang layers and light jackets or cardigans.

  2. leah. you don't? i'm surprised! but actually, it's kinda refreshing to know someone who blogs but doesn't tweet. i hate it when something i do becomes a fad of some sort (like blogging).

anyway, i kinda was on a spree with those trench coats because they were on sale and that i'll need them on my trip. but i guess, it won't go to waste since i might be going to either alaska, new york or the bay area. justifying, justifying? ;)

  3. I am another blogger who's not on twitter :) Just see no point in it for now. To connect with friends I have both my Facebook account and a cell phone - it's pretty much enough! For news and such there's good ol' internet and google, for putting out some of my thoughts I can now use my blog too... Everything is only good in moderation, so just like Leah said - the more tiem you devote to the web world the less you have the real one and for the people in it. So for now, and for me, what accounts I have are enough. But never say never lol I honetsly just don't feel I am that interesting to random people to be following all my micro thoughts on twitter... And for friends, I have other places :)

  19. Now ko lang nakita to. I don't approve follow requests from people I don't know with a few exceptions every once in a while. But I might just do this coz I had a bad experience with a co-worker who followed me on Twitter. I removed her na but I still want to 'geeky clean-up' :)

  21. You sure have a lot of online accounts :) Not bad if you can maintain them all.

Count me in as another blogger who doesn't have a twitter account. I dont post status at FB much. Plus, I have to tend to Aori first.
