iPad.

remember in THIS entry i mentioned that that there was one particular thing on top of my wishlist but i'd rather not talk about it until it hits the market?  well, it's finally here.

say hello to the new iPAD.

i was really getting impatient and considering kindle 2 just the other day when i chanced upon the news about the iPad's launch.

"The iBooks app is a great, new way to read and buy books. Just download the app for free from the App Store, and you’ll be able to buy everything from classics to bestsellers from the built-in iBookstore. Once you’ve bought a book, it’s displayed on your Bookshelf. To read it, all you have to do is tap on it and it opens up. The high-resolution, LED-backlit screen displays everything in sharp, rich, color, so it’s very easy to read, even in low light."

This will definitely kill a lot of tablets and video players such as Archos.

"The large, high-resolution screen makes iPad perfect for watching any kind of video: from HD movies and TV shows, to podcasts and music videos. You can also easily move between wide-screen and full-screen with a double-tap. And because it’s essentially one big screen, with no buttons or anything to distract you, the picture fills your line of sight. So you feel completely immersed in what you’re watching."

the iPad will be released late march.  can't wait!

  2. Hi joei!

You know what, for some reason I find the name "IPAD" lame? You know how some Filipinos sometimes tend to confuse "O" with "A?" That's how it sounds like to me! Hahaha. But anyway, sounds like a really, really cool gadget!

By the way, where you from in Manila? Are you interested for a bloggy get-together? C'mon, it will be fun!!! :)

  3. iPad is such a terrible, terrible name for any product. Truly...who thought of this?

  4. arthur. yes, i think it can read pdf files. it's more like a mini tablet than just an ebook reader from what i understand.

jessica. lame name, cool gadget. and sure! if you guys get to organize one, just inform me :)

  6. Oh sounds like a really great application!

Though I'm still one of those old-fashioned ppl who loves feeling pages of the book I'm reading. It just feel so much nicer:P

  7. I think this looks amazing! I want it too!

  8. Argh, I dunno. It kind of just seems like a big iPhone without the phone... and I wouldn't use it for books because reading from a backlit screen gives me a headache after too long. Still, it looks pretty, I suppose...

  10. sher. me too! and traditional planners as well over techie ones. although at this day and age, i usually keep both.

    jen. can't wait til march/april!

  11. mj. i like it because i'm in the market for a cross between a video player ala archos and a quasi-computer (something in between a phone and a computer). which is why this is perfect for me. i can read mail, surf the net and watch videos in it. the iBook is just a bonus.

if you want something that wouldn't strain your eyes, try checking out kindle 2. unlike the iPad, it doesn't have a backlit screen since it uses e-ink technology :)

lue. i wish they'd release it sooner! ;)

  12. I am completely petrified of the techincal world and wish I could get to grips with it. This iPad looks intriguing as it appears to be quite straighforward to use and I intend to check it out on its arrival in March. Very glad to have found you..

  14. I don't really see the point of the iPad. It's not meant to replace a mobile phone, it's not meant to replace a laptop. So, I don't really know what it's meant to be for! But I'm definitely going to go play with one in the store when it comes out. Maybe I'll change my mind then :P

  15. leia. you're right. it's not meant to replace a laptop nor a cellphone. it's just for those (myself included) who want a mini tablet, video player, ebook reader, game 'console' in one ;)

  16. Thanks for the earlier visit Joei.. I'm still old school when it comes to books, I'd rather smell the pages of a new book. But, since this will be the new uso, I'm not closing my mind to it...Will watch it out too :) Have a good weekend!

  17. iPad ... what a name for a supposedly awesome product ... ha, ha, ha!

    Join my giveaway contest?!

  18. The reviews are not that awesome Joie. They said that if you have the old iPod Touch, you can upgrade it to make it an iPad. Oh well, I hope this product really sell because the mere mention of the release made Apple's stock soar down.

PS... the towel, I bought it in Greenhills... sa tiangge. It's made in China. Hehehe! But it works. And it's cheap too. Where are you from in Manila? When will you be in SoCal. I'll be back in Manila by mid-Feb. Then back to SoCal by April again.

ps. oh yeah, nina's books are the best. i hope she'll make a fourth one. the 100 is by far my most fave. the illustrations by reuben toledo are just amazing.

  20. mommy judy. it's actually not an ebook reader. more like a bigger iTouch with more features. kindle 2 is the better option when it comes to reading technology ;)

nina. i know! isn't it funny? they were supposed to name it iSlate. i dunno why change it to iPad :)) and yes! love to join your giveaway!

  21. leah. i admit it's not for everyone. it's not advisable to buy an iPad if you already have an iTouch or an iPhone. but personally, it's something really want. checked out the features and specs and its exactly what i need. instead of buying a kindle 2, archos and a netbook or a tablet separately, i can just get the iPad :)

i'm gonna be in socal next month!

  22. betz. i know, everybody's been laughing at the name. maybe apple did it on purpose to get attention ;)

  23. Ay ganon ba? hehehe.. Books kasi yung nasa picture :) Wasn't this Ipad supposed to be the Kindle killer?

  24. go get it gurl!...and do give reviews.

it will be available here in UAE by June. but i don't stand a chance of owning one waaaah!

  25. mommy judy. it's not exactly a direct competitor of kindle (unlike nook and the others). the iPad is in a class of its own. imho, people are mistaken by comparing it to netbooks, mini video players, phones or ebook readers.

kero. it's going to be released in the US by march. hopefully, i'll get my hands on one :))

"but i don't stand a chance of owning one waaaah!"
    why not? :/

  26. Hate the name, quite like the concept although it'll be quite large! Like a mini computer. Won't be buying one straight away (I never do!!), but something to consider next year!
